Map of Windgate Farm north of Honiton

This contemporary map of the farm shows that it is on the side of the hill and may well be subject to wind blowing down the valley from the north

Image produced from the Ordnance Survey Get-a-map service.
Image reproduced with kind permission of Ordnance Survey   and Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland.

In the 1827 map below the farm is marked WINGATE and appears to be on the hill rather than in the gap .
Someone with local knowledge may be able to tell us exactly how windy it is.
